fireplace mantle
i worked on a weathered-beam fireplace mantle last fall that i've mostly finished (weathered it, stained it, etc.) but just need to mount. some of the rear needs to be hollowed out and a board inserted so that we can safely and securely attach it to the wall. some pics of the weathering process:
coffee
i've been home-roasting for about five years now...i started with the iroast 2 and that lasted almost three years. i recently picked up the behmor, which roasts up to a pound and gives a bit more complexity to the bean. though i'm quite fond of african beans (especially the kenya gethumbwini peaberry), i'm bound to love the hawaiian varieties (being from hawaii and all!). the ka'u moonbeans is very smooth...learn about home roasting at sweet maria's.
headphone amps
i finally finished the headphone amps i started almost two years ago...the millet hybrid minimax was mostly completed but i just had to re-wire the back end probes because the fit was a bit tight. i ended up selling the minimax. the millet hybrid maxed was mostly done as well, at least most of the board was populated. i finished most of the casework with ryan and then my friend trent helped with some of the larger holes.
i recabled a couple of headphones as well. first, the grado sr60, which are the best headphones you can buy at that price, and probably the best price:performance headphones around. i also recabled my etymotic er6i, attaching the microphone/cable from the iphone mic/earbuds to the drivers on the er6i. boy, those wires are tiny! but in the end it works, and i am now able to use my er6i with my iphone with the remote and mic functionalities. cool. i also made my first mini-mini cable, which is pretty nice, if i say so myself. for all things headphone-related, head-fi is the place to be.
